Nuclear Waste Management Expert

About the role

Provide technical expertise for the management of radioactive waste arising from decommissioning activities at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) facilities in Ispra, Italy. Support the development and implementation of waste management strategies in line with Italian, EU and IAEA regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement radioactive waste management strategies, including waste minimisation and hierarchy initiatives.
• Define waste characterisation programmes, assess radiological and chemical inventories, and classify waste according to local regulations.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with IAEA Safety Standards, Euratom requirements, Italian nuclear regulations and environmental legislation.
• Review contractor deliverables, support design and operation of waste storage facilities, and monitor waste treatment activities.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Nuclear/Environmental Engineering, Waste Management, Physics or related discipline.
• Significant experience in radioactive waste management and supporting nuclear decommissioning projects.
• Strong collaboration, stakeholder management and communication skills.
