Ophthalmic Technician 2 – Full Time

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 2 to join its Naples, FL eye‑care team. The OT2 provides comprehensive clinical testing, documentation, and patient support in a fast‑paced ophthalmology setting.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and document a wide range of eye examinations, including intraocular pressure measurements (Goldmann, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care), visual acuity, color vision, lensometry, and perimetry (automated, manual, Humphrey, VR).
• Conduct contact lens insertion and removal, ocular surface assessments, and sensorimotor exams.
• Capture imaging such as fundus photography, OCT, and slit‑lamp exams.
• Prepare patients for intravitreal injections (IVI) and support virtual‑care encounters.
• Maintain equipment calibration, ensure EMR accuracy, and adhere to infection‑control protocols.
• Assist with clinical research, train new staff, and act as a super‑user for technology implementations.

Required profile

• Current certification through JCAHPO or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to meet daily productivity goals while delivering patient‑centric care.
• Willingness to travel to satellite eye centers and work evenings or weekends as needed.

Required skills

• Goldmann applanation tonometry, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care tonometry.
• Pachymetry and lensometry.
• Contact lens fitting (hard and soft).
• Visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, and manual refraction testing.
• Automated and manual perimetry, including Humphrey and VR visual fields.
• Fundus photography, OCT acquisition, and slit‑lamp examination.
• EMR documentation and IVI preparation.
