Ophthalmic Technician I – Full‑time (Hospital)

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician I to join its Naples, Florida eye‑care team. The role supports providers by performing a wide range of clinical eye examinations and documenting results in the electronic medical record.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and record patient visits, chief complaints, ocular history, and visual assessments.
• Measure intra‑ocular pressure using Goldman applanation, Tono‑Pen, and I‑Care devices.
• Perform pachymetry, lensometry, visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, refraction, and sensorimotor exams.
• Execute automated and manual perimetry, Humphrey and VR visual field testing, and Amsler Grid assessments.
• Insert and remove hard and soft contact lenses, administer eye drops, and prepare patients for intravitreal injections.
• Maintain equipment calibration, stock clinical rooms, and travel to satellite eye centers as needed.
• Support virtual care encounters and assist providers with documentation and patient‑centric care.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification or training in ophthalmic technology preferred.
• Ability to follow department standards, maintain patient confidentiality, and adhere to infection‑control protocols.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.
