Product Design Engineer Lead

About the role

EssilorLuxottica is seeking a Product Design Engineer Lead to join its R&D department. The role focuses on developing advanced mechanical solutions for ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses, driving innovation across the product lifecycle from concept to final product.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and act as reference for complex mechanical solutions within a multidisciplinary team.
• Ideate, design, build, test and refine prototypes and characterization test systems.
• Apply state‑of‑the‑art technologies to solve challenging mechanical problems.
• Manage the full product development cycle, from idea generation to concept definition and finalization.
• Collaborate closely with industrial designers, UX teams and quality assurance.
• Travel to support engineering builds, vendor visits and prototype testing.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design or mold design, preferably in med‑tech or consumer electronics.
• Proven ability to work autonomously across multiple cross‑functional teams.
• Strong organizational, scientific problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Parametric 3D CAD software (preferably Creo).
• PDM systems (preferably Windchill).
• Injection molding design and process knowledge.
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Statistical tolerance analysis, functional dimensioning and geometric tolerancing.
• Experience with 3D/2D CAD, simulation and prototyping tools.
• Understanding of material properties such as plastics, metal, adhesive and glass.
• Proficiency with Office 365.
