Project Assistant (Protection)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Project Assistant to support protection activities in its Mediterranean Coordination Office based in Rome. Working under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and the general supervision of senior leadership, the incumbent will contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of protection projects for migrants, refugees and other vulnerable groups.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager in day‑to‑day project tasks, documentation and reporting.
• Liaise with governmental authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and other partners involved in protection programmes.
• Support field operations that serve migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons and victims of trafficking.
• Help coordinate meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagements.
• Maintain project files and ensure compliance with IOM policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, International Relations, Psychology or a related field with at least two years of relevant experience, OR a high‑school diploma with four years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons or other vulnerable groups.
• Experience in liaising with governmental bodies, UN agencies and NGOs.
• Previous work in an international humanitarian or multi‑cultural environment is an advantage.

Required skills

• Knowledge of migration‑related issues addressed by IOM.
• Familiarity with the migration context in Italy and movement‑related operations.
