R&D Engineer – High Voltage Switchgear

About the role

Join Hitachi Energy’s High Voltage Products Business Unit as an R&D Engineer in the Technology Center Italy, based in Lodi. You will support the lifecycle of high‑voltage switchgear (GIS, AIS, Hybrid) by ensuring data integrity, driving continuous improvement, and providing technical assistance to global stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain product data quality across PLM systems throughout the product lifecycle.
• Manage engineering changes to enhance product quality, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives based on production and field feedback.
• Provide technical support to Operations, Service, Sales, and R&D worldwide.
• Participate in design reviews, delivering structured feedback from factories and customer sites.
• Perform engineering calculations and simulations for design validation and product upgrades.
• Support resolution of product issues with timely corrective actions.
• Update technical documentation and product configurations in all relevant systems.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a proactive approach.
• Experience working in cross‑functional, international environments.
• Fluency in English; Italian is a strong plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD tools, preferably PTC Creo.
• Experience using PLM systems, preferably Windchill.
• Knowledge of engineering calculations and simulation tools such as FEM or multiphysics.
