Research Intern – Cyber and New Technologies

About the role

This remote, full‑time internship supports UNICRI’s research on the malicious use of emerging cyber and satellite technologies. Over a two‑month period, you will contribute to analytical and policy‑oriented work that examines how criminal and terrorist networks exploit digital critical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct desk research on cyber‑enabled threats and the misuse of emerging technologies by criminal and terrorist actors.
• Investigate the criminal and terrorist use of satellite‑enabled devices, satellite internet services, and geospatial technologies.
• Collect, organize, and analyse open‑source information, academic literature, technical reports, and policy documents.
• Assist in drafting background papers, briefing notes, concept notes, presentations, and analytical reports.
• Identify emerging trends, risks, and future research areas relevant to UNICRI’s work.
• Support communication and outreach activities related to research dissemination.
• Perform additional research and programme support tasks as required.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme (Master’s or Ph.D.) or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Field of study closely related to cyber security, emerging technologies, international security, or a similar discipline.
• Strong analytical and writing abilities, with attention to detail.
