Robotics & Automation Project Engineer (m/f/d)

About the role

The Robotics & Automation Project Engineer will lead end‑to‑end automation projects, turning robotic concepts into production‑ready cells. You will combine hands‑on robotics expertise with structured project delivery to ensure robust, efficient systems that meet manufacturing requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Define robotic concepts and cell architecture based on product and process needs.
• Perform robot cell simulation, feasibility studies, and layout optimisation.
• Program, configure and optimise industrial and collaborative robots (ABB, KUKA, UR, etc.).
• Install, set up and commission robots on site, troubleshooting any issues.
• Integrate PLC‑controlled systems and auxiliary devices (sensors, vision, drives) into automation cells.
• Drive projects from concept definition through to production hand‑over, managing RFQs, design reviews, FAT, SAT and ramp‑up.
• Evaluate and select equipment suppliers, conduct technical reviews and benchmark solutions.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, propose improvements to supplier solutions and internal standards.

Required profile

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in robotics and industrial automation engineering, preferably in high‑tech sectors.
• Proven experience working with machine builders or system integrators and coordinating suppliers.
• Strong knowledge of automation auxiliary devices, industrial interfaces (MES, SCADA, OPC‑UA) and machinery safety standards (FMEA).
• Ability to read electrical schematics, process flows and technical specifications.
• Willingness to travel up to 10 % for supplier visits, conferences or research partners.
• Fluent English; Italian or German is a plus.
