Senior Applied Scientist – Alexa International

About the role

The Alexa International Science team is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist with deep expertise in speech models and deep learning. You will help shape generative AI technology for speech‑to‑speech and multilingual systems that power Alexa’s global voice experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement novel algorithms for multilingual speech generation, text‑to‑speech synthesis, and speech‑to‑speech models.
• Drive cross‑team scientific strategy for speech quality across international locales.
• Leverage Amazon’s large‑scale data sources and computing resources to improve voice quality and pronunciation accuracy for non‑English languages.
• Review experiment results, iterate on model architectures, and optimize performance for production deployment.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and partner teams to align research priorities with customer needs.
• Participate in science reviews, paper reading groups, and brainstorming sessions across the organization.

Required profile

• Strong background in machine learning and speech synthesis (TTS/S2S).
• Experience with multilingual phonetics and modern model architectures.
• Proven ability to work in fast‑paced, low‑resource language settings.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to influence multiple teams around a shared scientific vision.
