Senior Legal Officer

About the role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Senior Legal Officer to lead its Global Staff Union (GSU) Legal Service. Reporting to the GSU President, the incumbent will provide strategic legal leadership and ensure that the Union’s legal activities align with WFP’s regulatory framework.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the full scope of GSU legal activities, aligning them with Union priorities and WFP regulations.
• Supervise the GSU Legal Officer (P3) and external legal consultants, assigning cases and ensuring quality and timely outputs.
• Oversee engagement of external legal counsel as authorized by the GSU Staff Council.
• Manage allocation of legal resources to support GSU members and affiliated staff unions worldwide.
• Provide authoritative legal advice to the GSU President, Executive Committee, and Staff Council on employment and administrative law matters.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in employment and administrative law.
• Proven ability to lead and manage a legal team in an international, multicultural environment.
• Strong analytical and advisory skills to support senior Union leadership.
