Senior Software Engineer – Space Systems

About the role

Thales Alenia Space is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the definition, development and validation of software for its space missions. You will work on high‑tech solutions for telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation and more, translating system and customer requirements into robust software architectures.

Key responsibilities

• Define software functional, interface and performance requirements from system specifications and customer needs.
• Allocate requirements to subsystems (e.g., DH, Thermal, TTC, Power) and design the overall software architecture.
• Develop a comprehensive software development plan covering all lifecycle phases and support contractor selection.
• Prepare and maintain the software technical baseline, follow up on contractor deliverables, and ensure compliance with FDIR and PUS services.
• Analyse unit‑test results, support HW/SW integration on test benches, and validate software on avionic platforms.
• Produce technical documentation such as ICDs, user manuals, budgets and cyber‑security specifications.
• Monitor cyber‑security activities related to the software.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace or Electronics engineering.
• Proven experience with real‑time operating systems and low‑level programming (including assembly).
• Strong knowledge of communication protocols (serial lines, bus and network protocols).
• Problem‑solving attitude and good management skills for schedule, cost and supplier coordination.
• Team player with excellent written and spoken English.
