Sustainability Certification Auditor

About the role

This position is responsible for independent integrity assessments of certified organisations and certification bodies across complex global supply chains. The auditor works remotely and on‑site, verifying compliance with sustainability, traceability and greenhouse‑gas reduction standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site and remote integrity assessments of certified companies and certification bodies.
• Plan, prepare and organise audit schedules across multiple regions and sectors.
• Evaluate compliance with traceability systems, mass‑balance calculations and GHG‑reduction criteria.
• Review supply chains covering waste, residues, agricultural feedstocks, processing facilities and trading entities.
• Assess social compliance aspects such as human‑rights, labour conditions and environmental protection.
• Prepare detailed assessment reports and documentation of findings.
• Conduct witness audits and evaluate auditor performance against certification standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of certification systems and integrity programmes.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in certification, auditing or quality management (audit experience mandatory).
• University degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, bioenergy, engineering or a related field.
• Strong background in auditing traceability systems, mass‑balance, sustainability criteria or GHG accounting.
• Experience with waste/residue‑based biofuel or agricultural supply chains is highly valued.
• Knowledge of chemical‑industry processes or circular‑economy principles is an advantage.
• Understanding of human‑rights frameworks and social‑compliance standards (e.g., ILO, UN Global Compact).
• High level of independence and strict adherence to conflict‑of‑interest requirements.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills.
• Fluent English; additional languages are a plus.
• Willingness to travel extensively within Europe or North America.
