Product Quality Engineer – Space Programs

About the role

Safran Electronics & Defense is seeking a Product Quality Engineer to support a specific space program in Torino. Reporting to the Product Quality Manager, you will ensure that high‑quality, cost‑effective parts are delivered while protecting the customer and maintaining smooth production flow.

Key responsibilities

• Manage product‑quality activities for the assigned space program, coordinating with internal teams and external customers.
• Work closely with production cells to minimise waste, prevent disruptions and guarantee part quality.
• Handle customer escapes, conduct root‑cause analyses and drive corrective actions.
• Lead product audits, first‑article inspections (FAI) and Quality Notification/Material Review Board (QN/MRB) processes.
• Support contract reviews to ensure customer requirements are fully addressed.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of engineering and quality experience in space or aeronautical companies.
• Ability to work autonomously and lead cross‑functional teams.
• Strong communication and influencing skills.
• Familiarity with mechanical design, part drawings and technical specifications.
• Experience with space‑aerospace manufacturing, assembly and testing processes.

Required skills

• Root Cause Analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone).
• Mechanical design interpretation and drawing analysis.
• Technical specification review.
• Space/Aerospace manufacturing and Assembly & Testing.
• Material Review Board (MRB) support and Quality Notification (QN) management.
• First Article Inspection (FAI) knowledge.
• EN9100 auditing (approved auditor).
• Knowledge of ESA/ASI authority requirements.
• Special processes: heat treatment, NDT, galvanic, welding.
• PPAP and Statistical Process Control (SPC) understanding.
