Attorney & Lawyer – AI Legal SME (Remote Contractor)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Attorney/Lawyer to join SME Careers as a remote, hourly contractor. In this role you will act as a Legal Subject Matter Expert, reviewing AI‑generated legal responses, creating high‑quality legal content, and providing detailed feedback to improve AI model performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop AI training content, including prompts, issue analyses, drafting examples, checklists, policies, and memos.
• Evaluate and rank AI responses to enhance correctness, clarity, defensibility, and risk awareness.
• Test AI outputs for inaccuracies, misleading certainty, confidentiality risks, and bias, ensuring reliability across legal scenarios.
• Provide precise written feedback, fact‑check legal concepts, and supply citations when required.

Required profile

• JD/LLB (or equivalent) with active bar membership or eligibility in at least one jurisdiction.
• 5+ years of professional legal practice (law firm, in‑house, government, or legal aid).
• Proven ability to spot issues and conduct structured legal analysis (rule → application → conclusion).
• Experience in one or more practice areas such as contracts, employment, privacy, corporate, litigation, IP, real estate, or compliance.
• Strong legal research skills and excellent drafting/editing abilities.
• Exceptional attention to detail, C1‑level English proficiency, and self‑directed work style.
