Legal Counsel – Renewable Energy Projects (Italy)

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support for our operations in Italy and act as the primary legal point of contact for renewable energy development activities. Reporting directly to the Head of Legal Europe and Latam, the role will support senior management and all business functions, with a focus on corporate matters and the development and construction of solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts and legal documents for solar and BESS projects, including SPAs, EPC contracts, DSAs, NDAs, grid connection, land lease, and PPAs.
• Provide legal advice and tailored solutions for strategic decisions across development, permitting, construction, and O&M phases.
• Lead negotiations of commercial agreements, ensuring risks are identified, assessed and mitigated.
• Support corporate investments, joint ventures, project financing, and M&A activities, including due diligence and transaction negotiations.
• Ensure compliance with Italian, EU and relevant PRC regulations, as well as internal policies.
• Manage disputes and pre‑litigation matters, coordinating external counsel and overseeing resolution processes.
• Oversee relationships with external legal advisors to ensure quality and cost‑effectiveness.
• Train and advise commercial, development and operations teams on contractual terms, compliance and dispute management.
• Collaborate with global legal team to improve processes and share best practices.

Required profile

• Minimum 8–10 years of post‑qualification experience in corporate, transactional and energy law.
• Proven experience negotiating and executing a wide range of commercial agreements in the renewable energy sector.
• Strong understanding of Italian and EU legal frameworks, including PRC regulations where applicable.
• Ability to work proactively in a fast‑paced, international environment and exercise sound commercial judgment.
