Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop space equipment for SSC Space Italy's Satellites Business Unit, based in Milano or Torino. The role involves creating 3D and 2D designs, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring mechanical solutions meet performance, cost and schedule requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the system engineer to define mechanical design requirements.
• Work with electrical and electronic engineers to gather input for mechanical design.
• Coordinate with thermal and structural engineers to integrate complex systems.
• Create 3D models of space equipment using CAD tools.
• Generate 2D manufacturing, assembly and ICD drawings and project documentation.
• Optimize designs for performance, reliability and cost.
• Conduct fast‑prototype tests for rapid validation.
• Specify, select and procure components required for mechanical assemblies.
• Manage part lists, libraries and standard components.

Required profile

• Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical/structural design, preferably in the space sector.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Proven ability to gather technical requirements and produce specifications.
• System‑oriented thinking with awareness of cost and schedule impacts.
• Experience interacting with customers, subcontractors and suppliers.

Required skills

• 3D and 2D CAD modelling (NX preferred).
• NX PCB Exchange design (plus).
• Thermal and structural design knowledge.
• Understanding of metallic and composite materials, coatings and adhesives.
• Technical documentation and ICD drawing creation.
• Fast‑prototype development and validation.
• Component specification and procurement.
• Parts library management.
