Senior Director, Legal

About the role

This senior leadership position is responsible for shaping and executing the legal strategy of a fast‑scaling, technology‑enabled hospitality business operating across multiple jurisdictions. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role blends legal expertise with business acumen to support safe growth, partnership development, and enterprise risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the overall legal strategy, advising the executive team on regulatory, contractual and risk matters.
• Oversee commercial contracting, including drafting, negotiating and standardising agreements with vendors, partners and enterprise clients.
• Manage litigation and dispute‑resolution strategy, selecting external counsel and guiding settlement decisions.
• Design and supervise enterprise risk management and insurance programmes.
• Provide employment law guidance across multiple jurisdictions and support HR in compliant workforce practices.
• Lead corporate governance, entity management and support financing, fundraising and strategic transactions.
• Oversee intellectual property, privacy and data‑protection compliance for products and platforms.
• Build and manage the internal legal and regulatory function while coordinating external counsel.
• Develop scalable legal frameworks, policies and templates to enable efficient operations.

Required profile

• 8+ years of legal experience, including significant in‑house counsel work in fast‑paced environments.
• Qualified lawyer with a JD (or equivalent) and active bar membership in Canada or a comparable jurisdiction.
• Strong expertise in commercial law, contract negotiation and enterprise risk management.
• Proven experience managing litigation, regulatory matters and external counsel relationships.
• Deep understanding of employment law, corporate governance and transactional legal work.
• Familiarity with privacy, data‑protection and intellectual property frameworks.
• Business‑oriented mindset with the ability to translate complex legal issues into actionable guidance.
