Senior Legal Counsel Europe

About the role

As a Senior Legal Counsel for Europe, you will join Nijhuis Saur Industries’ global Legal & Compliance team, based in the Unidro office in Milan. Reporting to the Director Legal & Compliance in the Netherlands, you will act as a trusted business partner for local management and regional leadership, providing hands‑on legal support across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver practical, business‑oriented legal advice to local management and operational teams.
• Support project teams during pre‑bid and bidding phases, including reviewing NDAs, teaming agreements and analysing tender documents.
• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of contracts such as EPC (FIDIC/NEC), construction, O&M, services, supply and partnership agreements.
• Advise on contract performance, manage amendments, and handle claims and contract‑related disputes.
• Coordinate and instruct external counsel when required, ensuring proactive risk identification and mitigation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies, and promote a culture of integrity.
• Support M&A transactions, integration of acquired entities and corporate governance processes.
• Contribute to the development of legal templates, tools and best practices, and act as a liaison between headquarters and local business teams.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with 5–7 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in‑house setting.
• Strong background in international commercial contracts and project‑based environments (e.g., EPC, infrastructure, industrial projects).
• Experience working in multi‑jurisdictional and decentralized organisations.
• Exposure to claims management, compliance matters and preferably M&A or corporate transactions.
