Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Schindler is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to strengthen its R&D Mechanical Engineering team in Milan. The role acts as a subject‑matter expert responsible for designing, developing and validating mechanical solutions for elevator systems and components, guiding projects from concept through release.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies for elevator systems, ensuring compliance with technical, safety and quality requirements.
• Create and review 3D models, drawings and engineering documentation using PTC Creo and manage product data within Windchill.
• Drive technical decision‑making, provide engineering guidance across development projects and design reviews.
• Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and technical validations to ensure robust and reliable solutions.
• Support product verification, prototyping and testing activities, analyse results and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure design‑to‑cost, manufacturability, maintainability and serviceability throughout the product lifecycle.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams including R&D, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality and Supply Chain.
• Act as a technical mentor for junior engineers, supporting their development and promoting engineering excellence.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design and development of complex components, preferably in the elevator or related industrial sector.
• Strong ability to lead projects and make technical decisions while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
