Gallery Assistant / Sales Assistant

About the role

The Gallery Assistant / Sales Assistant provides comprehensive administrative, sales, research and operational support to the Senior Director and the gallery team. You will play a key part in facilitating artwork sales, managing documentation, conducting market research and supporting exhibitions in a fast‑paced modern and contemporary art environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the sale of artworks from the global inventory, focusing on pieces presented through the Rome gallery.
• Support secondary‑market consignments and collaborate with local and international sales teams.
• Prepare and distribute artwork offers, sales presentations, client proposals and exhibition materials.
• Coordinate and maintain contractual documentation such as consignments, loans, agency agreements and artist contracts.
• Conduct market research and analysis to inform artwork valuations and sales strategies.
• Provide administrative support to the Director and senior team, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism.
• Maintain the gallery library, catalogue resources, respond to staff requests and recommend relevant publications.
• Assist with artist liaison, coordinating communications, projects and documentation.

Required profile

• University qualification in art, art business or comparable professional experience.
• Strong knowledge of modern and contemporary art history.
• Prior professional experience in a gallery or art‑related environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly organised with impeccable attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Capacity to work independently while maintaining confidentiality.
