Interim Finance Director

About the role

The Interim Finance Director will join a leading multinational corporation in the energy trading sector, reporting to the Energy Regional South Finance Manager. This senior interim position is based in Milan with a hybrid work model and focuses on steering finance strategy, reporting, and risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Define the finance strategy and annual operating plan (budget and forecast) aligned with business objectives.
• Lead end‑to‑end statutory accounting and group reporting, ensuring accurate month‑end close.
• Oversee payables, receivables and settlement accounting for physical and financial energy transactions.
• Manage standalone and consolidated financial statements, coordinating with auditors, tax advisors and external consultants.
• Drive management reporting and financial analysis linked to key business value drivers.
• Handle cash forecasting, liquidity management and banking facilities to support operational and strategic needs.
• Assess financial and operational risks, including derivatives and trading‑related exposures.
• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, tax, VAT and customs obligations.
• Provide financial insights and strategic support to the Board and senior leadership.
• Lead, coach and develop a Finance & Accounting team of eight professionals.
• Partner with commercial teams to evaluate business opportunities, investments and funding requirements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related discipline.
• Extensive finance leadership experience, preferably within energy, trading or commodity businesses.
• Strong knowledge of statutory accounting, reporting, budgeting and cash management.
• Understanding of derivatives, trading environments and risk management.
• Experience working in international, matrix‑structured organisations.
• Excellent leadership, analytical mindset and business partnering capabilities.
• Fluent English communication skills.
