PhD – Safe Control via Generative AI

About the role

The Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence (AI4I), together with IMT, is seeking a PhD candidate to investigate safe control of autonomous systems using generative AI. The research will combine state‑of‑the‑art machine‑learning techniques with established control methods such as model predictive control and planning algorithms.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop a novel control framework that integrates generative AI with existing control techniques.
• Explore applications at the intersection of machine learning, robotics, and control theory.
• Publish scientific results in top conferences and journals.
• Collaborate with partner institutions (TU Delft, CU Boulder) and utilize high‑performance computing resources.

Required profile

• Strong background in machine learning, deep learning, or applied mathematics.
• Good programming skills in at least one language (Python, MATLAB, or C++).
• Strong analytical abilities and capacity to work across multiple research domains.
• Fluency in English, both written and oral.
