Principal HW/SW Co-Design Engineer

About the role

NXP is building a new team in Catania to develop high‑impact micro‑controllers for AI at the Edge. The Principal HW/SW Co‑Design Engineer will act as a technical bridge between hardware and software teams, ensuring world‑class drivers and SDK integration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead low‑level IP firmware and driver development for MCU platforms, ensuring high quality and reusability.
• Collaborate with central software teams to align HAL/SDK development with hardware IP requirements.
• Drive verification of drivers and ROM features across RTL simulation, emulation, and pre‑silicon/post‑silicon stages.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices such as code reviews and static analysis.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in MCU/MPU architecture or firmware development.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence technical direction.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C, C++, Assembly and at least one scripting language.
• Deep knowledge of ARM processor subsystems, RTL simulation, emulation and hardware register interfaces.
• Experience with embedded RTOS, compilers, Git, JIRA and Confluence.
