Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Specialist – Temporary

About the role

The American Red Cross is seeking a temporary Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Specialist at the Sigonella Italy Base. This 4‑6 month position supports U.S. military members, veterans and their families by delivering Red Cross programs and managing volunteer teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage delivery of SAF and International Services programs, including IHL, Youth Action Campaign and Restoring Family Links.
• Build and maintain relationships with military leadership, conduct outreach briefings, and increase Red Cross visibility through base communications.
• Recruit, train, supervise and recognize volunteers across SAF, disaster, training and blood services.
• Coordinate educational briefings, community workshops and family support services such as wellness check‑ins and emergency communications.
• Monitor program outcomes, prepare reports, and assist with travel logistics for mobile deployments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably with familiarity of military culture and Red Cross programs.
• Strong interpersonal, public speaking and written communication abilities.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and work both independently and in a team.

Required skills

• Proficient computer skills and ability to use standard office software.
