Software Engineer, Backend – Core/API & Process Automation

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, and enhance the core systems that power next‑generation business process automation. Based in Italy and working with a remote‑first team, you will contribute to event‑driven architectures, API design, and high‑performance backend solutions that serve thousands of organizations worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend features for event‑sourced workflow engines and APIs.
• Develop, test, and deliver high‑quality code while participating in architecture decisions.
• Maintain clean, scalable APIs with strong developer experience and backward compatibility.
• Tackle distributed‑system challenges such as concurrency, ordering, and reliability.
• Optimize performance by identifying inefficient processing patterns and improving data access.
• Build observability capabilities through logging, metrics, tracing, and monitoring.
• Contribute to automation features that enable intelligent agents to interact with business processes.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
