Technical Writer – DITA XML & CMS Specialist

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Technical Writer to create and maintain product documentation for its semiconductor and display equipment. The role focuses on authoring content in DITA XML and managing the publishing workflow within a global, cross‑functional environment.

Key responsibilities

• Author and edit technical content using DITA XML, including topics, maps, and conditional text.
• Develop and customize DITA transformations to control the appearance of output formats.
• Coordinate documentation projects, define milestones, estimate deliverables, and ensure on‑time delivery.
• Collaborate with subject‑matter experts, engineers, and designers to verify technical accuracy and incorporate schematics and drawings.

Required profile

• Fluent in written and spoken English; German is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Quick learner, detail‑oriented, and comfortable multitasking across multiple projects.
• Willingness to travel internationally up to 20% of the time.

Required skills

• Proficiency with DITA XML authoring tools (Oxygen Editor).
• Experience using a content management system, specifically SDL Tridion Docs.
• Graphic editing tools such as Illustrator, Inkscape, Notepad++, MS Paint.
• Adobe Acrobat Pro DC for PDF handling.
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
