ICT Associate – IoT and Digital Technologies Internship

About the role

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) is seeking motivated interns to join the Technologies Infrastructure Support Unit (TISU) in Brindisi, Italy. Over a six‑month period, you will work full‑time on the Internet of Things (IoT) platform that supports UN peacekeeping and political missions worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily operational checks and routine maintenance of the IoT platform, including server health monitoring, software updates, and verification of databases, gateways, and backend components.
• Assist with lab testing, validation, deployment, and performance evaluation of new IoT research projects, focusing on open‑source IoT frameworks.
• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and support their integration with IoT systems.
• Develop and maintain documentation such as architecture overviews, connectivity diagrams, sensor configuration guides, and device inventory records.
• Install, integrate, and configure IoT sensors, and evaluate new sensor technologies.
• Support connectivity testing and other troubleshooting activities as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma (HS Diploma) as minimum education.
• Currently enrolled in or having completed a graduate‑level programme (second university degree or equivalent) or the final academic year of a first university degree.
