Instrumentation and Automation Engineer

About the role

Air Liquide is hiring an Instrumentation and Automation Engineer for its Technical Solutions team in Milan, Italy. You will report directly to the Medium Project Team Technical Solutions Manager and work in an international environment across primary and secondary production projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams without direct reports. The role focuses on setting high safety standards, sharing best practices and building reliable engineering solutions for the gas industry.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop preliminary and detailed instrumentation and automation solutions following company standards
• Estimate project budgets, prepare Requests for Quotation, evaluate supplier offers and support procurement through purchase orders, documentation and inspections
• Create technical data sheets, specifications and bid evaluations, and take part in risk assessments
• Supervise external engineering design for quality, budget and deadlines, and carry out technical audits of critical suppliers and installations
• Support site supervisors with technical issue resolution during construction and deliver internal training on sizing and costing tools

Required profile

• Degree in electronic engineering, automation engineering or a related electronic technician diploma
• At least 3-5 years of experience in electricity and instrumentation within an industrial primary production environment
• Proficiency in English and Italian
• Available for travel within national and European countries for site or client activities

Required skills

• Knowledge of industrial plant engineering, including control systems, analyzers, instrumentation, control valves and safety valves
• Ability to research and apply European and local technical standards
• Strong communication, analytical thinking, prioritisation and a proactive, collaborative approach

The salary range for this position in Italy is between EUR 50,000 and EUR 70,000 gross, and the employment relationship follows the chemical-pharmaceutical collective agreement and the company's second-level bargaining.
