Project Technical Engineer (Secondary Substation Engineering)

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY's Grid & Power Quality Solutions and Service global product group is looking for a Project Technical Engineer in Milan. The role leads and coordinates the secondary (electrical design) scope of substation projects, from concept through implementation, and works with internal and external teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the secondary electrical design scope, ensuring the integrity and reliable operation of substation systems.
• Prepare, review and validate technical specifications, equipment selections and deliverables such as SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
• Develop and verify protection and control schemes, perform engineering calculations and support FAT and SAT activities.
• Ensure compliance with standards, grid codes and quality, health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Collaborate with civil, primary, protection and control engineers on interfaces, constructability and cable routing.
• Act as technical point of contact for customers, suppliers and stakeholders on secondary engineering matters.
• Assess scope changes, manage risks and contribute to scheduling and change management.
• Support tendering with engineering estimates and technical documentation, and support installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 4 years of experience in secondary engineering for substations or industrial power systems, from design through commissioning.
• Knowledge of protection concepts (differential, distance, overcurrent) and FAT and SAT processes.
• Strong commitment to safety and health and safety practices.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Italian; additional languages are an advantage.
