Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the core backend systems that power our AI product. This high‑ownership role focuses on solving distributed‑systems challenges while delivering new features and maintaining infrastructure excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver new backend features with emphasis on scalability, performance and reliability.
• Maintain, optimise and improve existing services and infrastructure.
• Design, deploy and operate backend services on AWS, Cloudflare and other environments.
• Implement and evolve monitoring and observability using Sentry, OpenTelemetry, logging and alerting.
• Investigate and resolve production issues across distributed systems.
• Write clean, maintainable code following SOLID principles and backend best practices.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis and reliability improvements.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, documentation and infrastructure planning.
• Collaborate with the team while upholding high standards for communication and delivery.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in distributed systems, system design and backend architecture.
• Strong understanding of database fundamentals, indexing, consistency, replication and transactions.
• Proven ability to design scalable and resilient systems.
• Fluency in Node.js backend development.
• Experience debugging complex production issues.
• Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and service deployment.
• Experience implementing monitoring with Sentry and OpenTelemetry.
• High standards for code quality, reliability and communication.
• Comfortable working within ±2 hours of UK time.
